Some investments last a lifetime, and these homes, built or purchased by India’s most powerful people, epitomise what it means to make a “lifetime investment.” After all, none of these has been under a billion dollars. We tell you about some of India’s most valuable homes, who owns them, and where they’re located.
Antilia: Where Mukesh Ambani resides!
The 400,000-square-foot Ambani home is worth nearly 2 billion dollars and is located in one of the world’s most expensive neighbourhoods, Altamount Road in Mumbai. This overarching structure, designed by an award-winning architectural firm and built by a renowned construction firm, can withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8 on the Richter scale. The Ambani mansion has over 600 staffers and is made up of 27 inhabitable floors that equate to 40 storeys due to the extremely high ceilings.
JK House: 6000 crores, Gautam Sanghania’s home!
The chairman of the Raymond Group owns India’s second most costly and tallest private residence. JK House, which spans 16,000 square feet and has over 30 levels, six of which are dedicated to parking solely. The marble canopy that hangs outside JK House in Mumbai’s Breach Candy neighbourhood has a long and storied past. It formerly featured a seated statue of Queen Victoria, but it has recently welcomed a new resident: Lala Kailashpat Singhania. Gautam Singhania, chairman of the Raymond Group, adds, “That’s my grandfather.” “I made it as a mark of respect for him.”
Mannat: Where Shahrukh Khan resides! Mannat hai ya Jannat?
In 2001, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan moved into Mannat in Mumbai, which was an empty shell that Gauri painstakingly and lovingly filled to create a comfortable, family nest. Certain upgrades and redesigns were carried out to meet the family’s changing needs—in fact, Gauri and architect-designer Kaif Faquih worked on the estate for nearly a decade.
Ratan Tata’s Retirement Home
The former Tata Sons Chairman’s retirement house is Ratan Tata’s all-white villa in Colaba. The home’s 13,350 square feet are divided into seven storeys. There is also a gym and a media room here, in addition to social facilities such as the living room, dining room, and private bedrooms. At any given time, the basement can house roughly 10-12 cars. A sun deck on the top floor can seat up to 50 people. Bombay House, the Tata Sons headquarters, is a 20-minute drive away and is also a pet-friendly location.
Jalsa: Where Big B resides!
For many aspiring actors, the Bollywood legend’s Juhu, Mumbai residence is nothing short of a pilgrimage destination. The house is said to be a double-story structure with a total area of 10,123 square feet. When Amitabh completed the film Satte pe Satta, director Ramesh Sippy presented the family with the house.
